The government on Sunday decided to increase fees for tests and services for commercial and private automobiles including registration and ownership transfers.
"Registration and ownership transfer fees of all commercial vehicles operating on rent will see a 15 percent rise," Communications Minister Obaidul Quader told reporters after the 37th meeting of the Road Transport Advisory Council.
"Those for private vehicles will be hiked by 40 percent," he added.
The fees for driving tests, license duplication, acquiring learners' permits and fitness certificates would be also increased by 50 percent, as per the decision.
"The decision will be sent to the Finance Ministry and the hike will be in force after getting its nod," Quader told reporters in response to queries about a probable implementation date.
Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) Chairman Ayubur Rahman Khan said that it would take around 5 to 6 months to implement the decision.
